About the Legacy Society

Joining the Legacy Society is a meaningful way to leave a personal legacy that reflects your deepest values. By making a planned gift to the National Medal of Honor Heritage Center, you ensure that the extraordinary stories of Medal of Honor Recipients will continue to educate and inspire generations to come. Your commitment sustains programs that teach the values our heroes lived and died by—courage in the face of fear, sacrifice for others, commitment to a higher calling, integrity in every decision, citizenship rooted in service, and patriotism that unites us as Americans. Through your generosity, these timeless ideals will live on as a guiding light for the future.

Ways to Leave a Legacy

Bequests

One of the simplest and most common ways to make a planned gift is by naming the National Medal of Honor Heritage Center in your will or trust. A bequest allows you to support the Center’s mission without affecting your assets or cash flow during your lifetime. This gift is revocable, private, and not payable until after your lifetime. Bequests are fully deductible for federal estate tax purposes and are typically exempt from state inheritance taxes. You may designate either a specific amount or a percentage of your estate.

Beneficiary Designations

You can designate the Heritage Center as a beneficiary of:

  • 401(k)
  • IRA
  • Life insurance policy (existing or new)
  • Charitable Gift Annuity
  • Stock or other securities

Other types of planned gifts:

  • Real Property: Gifts of residences, vacation homes, commercial buildings, or land can provide significant support while offering potential tax advantages.
  • Charitable Remainder Trust: By transferring cash or property into an irrevocable trust, you or your loved ones can receive income for life or a set number of years. At the end of the trust term, the remaining assets benefit the Heritage Center, ensuring your legacy lives on.

Already Have a Will or Trust?

If you have already created a will or trust, you can include the Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center in your estate plans by adding us as a beneficiary. This can be as simple as a conversation with your attorney to update your documents. If you have already remembered the Heritage Center in your plans, we would be honored to know so we can thank you and welcome you into the Legacy Society.

Once You Have Planned Your Gift

For a bequest in your will or trust, please let us know by completing the Legacy Society Letter of Intent form. If possible, we also encourage you to share a copy of the legal document (such as a codicil to your will or amendment to your trust) for our records.

For policies, accounts, stocks, or securities in which the Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center is named as beneficiary, please provide that information to us by completing the Letter of Intent form. Your financial institution or employer can supply the required beneficiary forms, which you may also share with us for our files.

For any other type of planned gift, please contact us directly so we can guide you on which documents are helpful to provide.

All unrestricted planned gifts are used strategically to support the most critical needs of the Heritage Center. If you would like your gift directed to a specific purpose, please reach out so we can ensure your wishes are honored. Whether unrestricted or designated, your legacy will help ensure future generations learn and live by the values of courage, sacrifice, commitment, integrity, citizenship, and patriotism.
