Black History Month Teacher Workshop

February 16, 2026 | 9AM–3:30PM

OVERVIEW

This Teacher Workshop is geared towards elementary teachers and librarians and will highlight the contributions of African American Space Medal of Honor and Medal of Honor Recipients—particularly those of Space Medal of Honor Recipient Ronald McNair and Medal of Honor Recipient George Jordan. Content for both lower and upper elementary teachers will be covered.

This workshop will allow participants to engage with an award-winning children’s book author (Rita Lorraine Hubbard, Author It’s Possible: The Story of Ronald McNair) and a historian of African American military service (Tina Jones, Founder The Slaves to Soldiers Project) in addition to experiencing a guided gallery tour. Participants will engage in a series of adaptable instructional strategies and hands-on activities and walk away with standards-aligned lessons ready for classroom use. The character values associated with the Medal of Honor—courage, commitment, sacrifice, integrity, patriotism, and citizenship—will also be highlighted.

*Only Teachers and School Librarians are allowed to participate. Registration is required.
