Raise the Colors

The Chattanooga River Market has always been a central gathering place for events, the weekend farmer’s market, and communal meeting grounds for those looking to tour the National Medal of Honor Heritage Center or the Tennessee Aquarium.

With its iconic water elements now comes another prominent and high-flying feature. Installed on July 15th, 2024, and standing 30ft tall, the plaza is now home to two new flag poles installed by Flag for Vets. Flying both our nation’s and state’s flags and prominently situated at the entrance to the the river market just behind both the water foundations and main aquarium sign.

The new flags are more than just decorative elements; they are a statement of our collective identity. They serve as a reminder of our country’s resilience, our respect for our past, and our commitment to working together for a brighter future. Visitors to the river market will now be greeted by these symbols, enhancing the beauty and significance of this central space. These flags will be a central part of our flag-raising ceremony that will officially kick off the year long planning and events for the 2025 Medal of Honor Celebration.

We invite everyone to visit the river market, take in the sight of the new flags, and to stop in to the Heritage Center to reflect on and appreciate those that served so that we may always raise these flags.

A special thanks to our volunteers that helped to install the flag poles:
Tom Crisp, Scott Key, Jordan Allie, Daniel Anderson.
