Join us in person and online for Medal of Honor Day on March 25, 2022!

Medal of Honor Day is a celebration of the 3,511 individuals who have received our nation’s highest honor for military valor. The first Medals of Honor were awarded to the Andrews’ Raiders, Union volunteers who took part in what is known as the Great Locomotive Chase on April 12, 1862. On March 25, 1863, six of these Raiders were each presented with the medal by Secretary of War Edwin Stanton and met with President Abraham Lincoln. This date was chosen to be Medal of Honor Day in celebration of these first medals, designated as such by Congress in 1990 to “foster public appreciation and recognition of Medal of Honor recipients.”

The National Medal of Honor Heritage Center has a schedule of events to celebrate this day, including both in person and online opportunities! The Center is working in partnership with several museums and institutions to offer more opportunities and content to enjoy, so check out the schedule below!

Please note that all events are free, however gallery admission requires ticket purchase.
