History Club
Overview
Generously supported by the Astre Foundation, the National Medal of Honor Heritage Center is proud to once again offer the Nathaniel C. Hughes Jr. History Club for FREE to local students in Fall 2023. Engage with other passionate students from the Chattanooga area while exploring the past, making connections to the present, and envisioning a future that will inspire generations to come.

This immersive 26-week program will run from September 29th – December 5th during the 1st semester and February 6th – May 14th during the 2nd semester. This year’s program will center on America’s “Forgotten War”–the Korean War. Largely inquiry-based, program sessions will allow students to explore the War through varied sources and consider the legacy of those who served and sacrificed.
To better reach each age range, middle and high school students will meet separately and will alternate weeks. The schedule for each group is listed below. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 4:30pm – 6:00pm at the National Medal of Honor Heritage Center. On their respective dates, students are encouraged to arrive between 4:30pm – 4:45pm for snacks and socializing prior to program start at 5:00pm. Current 6th-12th grade students are welcome to apply.
Required Application
Students MUST apply to participate in this program, and participant selection will be announced. Each group (middle and high) will be capped at 25 participants. The application window will open August 1st and will close August 31st. Participants will be announced by September 5th.
