Author and historian James P. Gregory Jr. joined historian (and our Interim Executive Director!) David Currey for a conversation to discuss Gregory’s new book, “Unraveling the Myth of Sgt. Alvin York: The Other Sixteen.” In the aftermath of York’s action and its resultant fame, the stories of the other sixteen soldiers involved were obscured. In his new work “Gregory recovers the story of these other men and the part they played alongside York while revealing the process of mythmaking in twentieth-century America.” Learn a little more about the other side to this legendary action and its controversy on YouTube below!

James P. Gregory Jr.

“was born in Ada, Oklahoma in 1995 and moved around the state until graduating from Piedmont High School in 2013. In May of 2017 he graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor’s degree in History: Museum Studies and a Bachelor’s in Humanities. In May of 2019, he graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Masters degree in History: Museum Studies. He is currently a Doctoral Graduate student at the University of Oklahoma.”
